Maruti Suzuki achieves prestigious milestone of 20 million units production
Indo-Japanese Automobile major, Maruti Suzuki has achieved the prestigious milestone of the 20 million automobile productions in India. With this, India becomes the second country globally to achieve the milestone after Japan. Not only that, India is also the fastest country to reach this milestone. It has taken 34 years and 5 months since the production in the country commenced in December 1983. Compared to India, Japan took 45 years and 9 months to reach the milestone.
Maruti Suzuki has been the biggest carmaker in the country for quite long time and it has produced several practical and widely popular models. Among the 20 million cars, the Alto has been the most produced model with the figure standing at 3.17 million. The 20th million model was a new Swift hatchback produced at the Gujarat production plant.
Both the Maruti Suzuki Omni and Maruti Suzuki Swift produced 1.94 million units. Currently, Maruti Suzuki produces a total of 16 models in three different plants. Apart from the domestic market, the automaker exports various models in countries across the world. Now, the automaker is also emphasizing on electric models alongside the conventional fuel powered cars.
Interestingly, in the past so many years, Maruti Suzuki’s production grew at a significant rate. The company achieved the milestone of 1 million units in March 1994, while the 5 millionth unit was produced in April 2005. Back in March 2011, the automaker rolled out the 10 millionth unit and 15 millionth unit was produced back in May 2015. The second and third biggest produced models by the brand were the Maruti 800 and Wagon R with production number of 2.91 units and 2.13 units respectively.
