Xiaomi India holds MIUI developer conference to support local development

Xiaomi India held a MIUI developer conference to support local development. Xiaomi, India’s number one smartphone and smart TV brand, today held the MIUIDeveloper Conference in New Delhi, India. The event was attended by a large number of local start-ups and individual developers who came to share their ideas on how to further develop the local Internet ecosystem and improve Internet services. Xiaomi’s Android-based OS MIUI has more than 80 million monthly active users in India, making it one of Xiaomi’s key overseas markets. The conference focused on highlighting the advantages of working within the Xiaomi ecosystem and empowering local developers.

Large resources to support developers

GetApps aims to solve the biggest challenge every developer faces when launching a new app – that of gaining traction and getting ahead of the competitors. Ivonne Li, the head of Mi App Store (now GetApps), Xiaomi said, “The global distribution of apps on the platform has exceeded 220 billion. GetApps has 11 million daily active users, showing a 120% growth YoY. App developers can leverage traffic bonuses and multiple strategies of app promotion offered by the platform.”

Max Ma, General Manager, Global Internet Business, Xiaomi added, “Being the Internet company we are, we feel obligated to share our platform with as many developers as possible, enabling them to do great things with the help of our platform. India has especially been a special market for us.

For instance, Trell, which is India’s #1 lifestyle community app with short videos, photos, visual blogs, and articles, got 200% more downloads after launching on GetApps. Similarly, Camera360 got 75X more downloads, while a casual game CutCut grew 39 times.

In the second half of this year, GetApps launched the “Seagull Project” which focuses on investing resources worth INR 1 billion to support local developers and start-ups through giving awards, featuring apps on the start page, publishing reviews, giving editorial recommendations, and hosting sessions – all of which will help build a new Internet ecosystem beneficial to all its participants.

Empowering global game developers

With increasing software and hardware prowess of mobile devices, mobile gaming today is a market that shows incredible growth potential. Robin Zheng, Head of Mi Global Game Publishing, Xiaomiadded, “There are 71.66 million daily active users of Xiaomi phones who are gamers, with an average of 6.65 million new users added daily. An average gaming session on a mobile phone for each user lasts 27 minutes.”

In order to allow more users to enjoy gaming on their smartphones, Xiaomi has established an innovative game distribution strategy that combines traditional promotion channels with Xiaomi’s platforms along with integrated payment and monetization solutions. Mint Games, a one-stop distribution lab for casual and indie games, has been launched by Xiaomi as well.

Ideal cloud platform helping start-ups

Building a good app today requires a robust cloud services infrastructure. Kingsoft Cloud Services has always been an important part of the Xiaomi ecosystem. Kingsoft provides IaaS infrastructure that supports the upper-level PaaS and SaaS apps. Expanding its services overseas, Kingsoft Cloud is keen to work with local developers and will provide cloud service experience vouchers worth $299 for start-ups and developers stationed in Kingsoft Cloud.

Mi Video and Mi Pay gain traction

During the conference Devon Zhang, Head of Mi Video, Xiaomi said, “Xiaomi’s video services have already covered both smart TV and smartphone platforms. Currently, Mi Video is the second most popular video app on Xiaomi’s smartphones with the number of monthly active users reaching 58 million.”

Mi Pay is a mobile payment service designed by Xiaomi for the Indian market. It supports various cards issued by more than 140 banks, including support for the NPCI-backed UPI (Unified Payments Interface). Mi Pay has acquired over 18 million  users since its launch in February 2019. The payment solution app has also registered more than 14 million users.

Xiaomi looks forward to building a  global software ecosystem, which will further enhance the localization of Xiaomi’s mobile services. Today’s conference concludes this year’s series of MIUI developer conferences organized by Xiaomi. With the continuous expansion of Xiaomi’s business, the company will reach out to more developers and start-ups around the world to work together on creating a sustainable professional community.
