Don’t Ignore Non-Tech Activities When you Are Playing with Your Kids

We live in an age where we don’t see our kids jumping in the puddles, making flower garlands, and playing silly games. We see them staring into their gadget screens all the time without having to move for fun. Technology has snatched their childhood activities from them. We had a much better and fun childhood. We indulged in all sorts of physical activities from riding the bicycle in the neighborhood, chasing cats, playing hide and seek and all those self-created games. No wonder we had stronger imagination and higher creativity. Personally, watching The Jetsons was the only link to anything tech, thanks to our Spectrum TV Packages. And it was a much-deserved dose of entertainment.

Today’s children are deprived of much-needed non-tech activities. But sadly, we don’t make any extra effort to involve them in some creative physical activities. We are allowing their lives to become digital. Yes, we have hectic days and when we go home after a tiring day, all we want to do is relaxing in front of the TV. It is convenient to make your child watch a nice cartoon series on a tablet. But studies indicate that staying in front of the screen for long makes kids sad, obese, and develop concentration problems. Also, they sleep poorly and can have eyesight issues. If you love your children and want the best for them, you need to squeeze out some time to indulge in screen-free activities with them.

Following are some amazing and interesting screen-free activity ideas for you to enjoy with your kids.

Prepare a Meal Together

Sound too simple? Well, we guarantee that your kids will find it fun. Children love doing adult things and that too with their involvement. Give them small jobs like grating the cheese or stirring pot. They can shape potato and meatballs and beat up eggs. Children from all age groups love to participate actively in meal and dinner preps. Also, doing this together will improve family bonding.

A Neighborhood Adventure

Whenever you live, walking around the neighborhood is a great idea. It’s inexpensive and simple. You kids get to move about and explore places. Encourage them to make stories about the things, people, and places they see on their way. This will make it a better and more fun activity. Also, children get to be aware of the surrounding places. Younger children would consider this activity a treat. While older children might need a little convincing. It’s an excellent physical activity. Just make sure that you haven’t allowed any gadgets along.

Fix a Trampoline

We love trampolines! The moment you look at it, all you can think is ‘outdoor fun.’ younger children have an enormous amount of energy that is not channelized. Jumping on a trampoline can help them expend some of this limitless energy. Be a little cautious of the safety though. Before you purchase one, read reviews and user testimonials. Pay attention to the details like maximum weight limit and bounce height.

Jigsaw Puzzles

Building a jigsaw puzzle is a fun activity. Choose the puzzles according to the age of your kids. You can get puzzles with fewer pieces for hourly activities. And you can choose puzzles with 100+ pieces to continue this fun activity for many days. Puzzle building improves motor development of children and develops their visual closure.

Bubble Up

Do you have a pool at home? It’s okay if you don’t have it. You can purchase a pool or a waterslide too. All you need then are a few bowls and jugs. Fill it up with water and add some quantity of bubble bath. Children love playing in the water. Let them splash, swim, and float as much as they like. They can spend hours playing in the water. Give them small balloons and colorful balls to play with.

Make an Outdoor Fire

Even if you have a backyard, it would be a great idea to take your kids to a bigger outdoor place where you can have a bonfire safely. Make your kids gather sticks, break twigs, and scrunch balls of newspaper to start a fire. Once you build a fire, you can sit around it and roast marshmallows. Readout stories to your children, watch the stars coming out, and so on.

Bake Cookies

Yes, we are talking about baking cookies from scratch. It is actually quite simple and easy. And guess what! Kids of all age groups dig it as much as they dig cookies. You can get tons of awesome recipes online with your Cox service to bake scrumptious cookies. Just make sure that you note the recipe down on a piece of paper. Because no gadgets are allowed!
