HMD Global to unveil its first notch display smartphone Nokia X6

HMD Global is set to unveil first notch display smartphone Nokia X6. There has been much hype around the introduction of a smartphone with a notch ever since the launch of their phones last month on April 4 in New Delhi. Many leaks have surfaced leading us to get full hand information now to unveil the Nokia X6.  The phone is likely to be launched on May 16 in China.

All the hands-on images and renders so far have pretty much confirmed exactly what the Nokia X6 is going to look like. Additionally, the phone has also cropped up on the Chinese certification site, TENAA, with a few hardware details as well, all of which leave pretty much nothing to the imagination. However, the name of the upcoming mid-range phone has been a little confusing with past rumours suggesting it would be called the Nokia X6 and recent rumours calling it the Nokia X. However, a Bluetooth certification site this week seems to confirm that it will be called the Nokia X6.

The Nokia X6 will look radically different from HMD’s existing lineup. The highlight of its design language is that the phone will be the first Nokia phone to sport a notch on the display. This isn’t all that surprising now considering that’s the general industry norm and pretty much every Android OEM is adopting the notch.

According to the TENAA listing, the Nokia X6 will sport a 5.8-inch FHD+ (1080 x 2280) TFT display with an aspect ratio of 19:9. Apart from the notch, there will also be a narrow chin on the bottom of the display. The Nokia X6 will have a glass back where you’ll also find a vertical dual camera system and a fingerprint sensor.

The live images show that the Nokia X6 will also get white or silver accents around the fingerprint sensor, camera module, power button and volume controls, which adds to the appeal. The images also confirm the phone will come with a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Specifications

The Nokia X6 is expected to be powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 636 processor. The TENAA listing also suggests the phone will be offered in a choice of 3GB, 4GB and 6GB RAM options. Depending on the RAM variant, you should get a choice of 32GB or 64GB of internal storage with the option to expand it further via microSD card.

The dual rear cameras are expected to be Zeiss-branded and will likely include a pair of 16-megapixel sensors. This should prove to be a much-needed feature in the mid-range segment considering the Nokia 6 (2018) comes with a single rear sensor. Details regarding the front camera of the Nokia X6 are still unknown.

The Nokia X6 will house a 3000mAh battery, support dual SIM and Bluetooth 5.0, and will run Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box. Moreover, if the phone does come to India, you can expect it to launch as an Android One phone, which means timely Android security updates and the guarantee of Android P and Q in the future.

The Nokia X6 will measure 147.2 x 71 x 8 mm and weigh 151 grams as per the listing. Additionally, the phone will be offered in a choice of Blue, Black and Silver White.

The Nokia X6 is expected to fall in the mid-range segment, somewhere in between the Nokia 6 (2018) and the Nokia 7 Plus. As per past reports, the phone could be priced around CNY 1,600, which is roughly Rs 16,999.
