Gurugram officials to switch to electric cars from July 1
“The cars hired by energy efficiency service ltd will have similar features like normal 5 seater petrol and diesel vehicles. It will be allotted to gazetted officers having field duties to check the performance on road. We will take the feedback of the vehicles and will recommend changes accordingly to the company if required,” said V Uma Shankar, GMDA CEO. Uma Shankar said that the whole idea behind the use of non pollution generating vehicles is to spread awareness about current threats that petrol and diesel vehicles pose to the environment.
Gurugram is considered as one of the most polluted cities in the country. As per the survey conducted by World Health Organisation (WHO), Gurugram is among the 12 most polluted cities having on an average 113 Particulate Meter 2.5 (PM 2.5) everyday. Gurugram has a population of over 25 lakh and 13 lakh vehicles ply on roads everyday.
Stating about the features, these vehicles will have a maximum speed of 140 KMPH but as they are chosen for city ride, they will generally ply at average speeds of 50 to 60 kmph. GMDA is also in the process of starting charging stations at eight places in the city such as Tau Devi Lal stadium near Medanta hospital, Municipal Corporation of Gurugram office at sector 34, sector 15 and sector 29 near Leisure Valley Park.
