Apple Inc. is a US multinational technology company headquartered in Cupertino, California. The Company designs, develops, and sells consumer electronics, computer software, and online services. Apple Loop is here to update you on various discussions that have happened around Apple over the last week in Cupertino.
Apple to Unveil Four New iPhones For 2018
It is likely that Apple is planning to unveil four new iPhones for 2018. As more parts are sourced in the supply chain it’s becoming clear what Cupertino is up to. Apple will launch a second-generation iPhone X, a larger iPhone X Plus and a budget iPhone X in September this year. It will also release a second generation iPhone SE in June.
Apple Not Confirming iPhone X Problems
A rising number of reports are coming in of cracked lenses on the handset – but the biggest issue might be the repair cost, because Apple won’t change the lens cover. Consumers need to exchange it for a ‘recon’ machine plus a cash payment. There might be another customer service issue building up for Apple.
This last week has seen a rising number of reports of the back camera lens cracking on the iPhone X, and Apple’s suggestion for repair is to have the whole iPhone unit replaced, at a price of up to $549 (Rs 36,786). Once again quality control and the high cost of a ‘repair’ is threatening Apple’s reputation as a safe and trusted smartphone manufacturer.
This Year Really Will Be A Super Cycle of Sales
Last year the outline was simple – Apple would refresh the iPhone design (with the tenth-anniversary iPhone X) and the pent-up demand for something new would trigger a ‘super-cycle’ of sales along the same lines as the launch of the phablet-sized ‘Plus’ machines. As we know, the demand was not there for this extensive uptick in sales.
This year the iPhone X will be a bit cheaper, the iPhone X Plus will arrive, ‘significant demand’ will return, and the super cycle will arrive. In comparison to last year more sales is likely to be generated. It is likely that new iPhone line-up is likely to bring the iPhone X design to a more traditional $700-800 price range (Rs 46,900-53,600), with an ‘iPhone X Plus’ also likely to drive significant demand among those willing to pay more.
Important discussions and decisions from WWDC
In the upcoming next week, i.e. Monday, Apple will hold its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose, where it will lay out its software strategy for the next year and tease future hardware ambitions. Typically when the company upgrades the operating systems that power the iPhone and iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple TV, it goes for enhancements that tie people ever closer to their devices and keep them engrossed in the latest apps and games.
