Alethea Communications Technologies Expands Home Wi-Fi Performance Testing Portfolio to Support Broadband Forum’s TR-398 Issue 2 Test Plan
Alethea Communication Technologies, a leading Wi-Fi test equipment, and broadband experience company announced the introduction of a test suite running on their market-leading SWAT WiCheck 6 platform for validating home Wi-Fi Access Point performance against TR-398 Issue 2 test standard defined by the Broadband Forum.
Launch of TR-398
The introduction of TR-398 Issue 2 will help in evaluating the capabilities of Access Points and will enable the WiFi ecosystem to invalidate the home WiFi User Experience. Speaking about extending support for TR-398 Issue 2, Chimbu K Aravind, CEO of Alethea Communications Technologies, said, “Today, TR-398 has emerged as the need of the hour for all the telecom operators who are looking for a widely accepted test solution to evaluate the performance of Wi-Fi routers before launch. With TR-398 Issue 2, performance test cases have been added for Wi-Fi 6 and for mesh networks. At Alethea, our test system supports all the 17 test cases defined by TR-398 Issue 2 across the seven major dimensions: receiver sensitivity, throughput, coverage, multiuser support, anti-interference, stability, and mesh networks.”
Alethea’s SWAT WiCheck test platform generates 10s to 1000s of clients using a distributed device architecture to validate the performance, stability, functionality, and security of Access Points and End-to-End networks. SWAT WiCheck provides 100% coverage for TR-398 Issue 2 test plan specifically addressing testing for new IEEE 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) technology in the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. With an extensive feature set, support for 50+ real stateful applications, and the option to stream pre-defined traffic, it provides support for almost every authentication option including captive portals, and flexibility to edit predefined test scenarios for specific parameters if required. It offers users the ability to extend validation coverage and test beyond standard TR-398 scenarios.
“We are excited to announce the support for TR-398 Issue 2 because this test solution will be of great benefit to our telecom operator customers and their OEM / ODM partners,” said Rajesh Putiya Kunnan, Director, Sales at Alethea Communications Technologies. “Standardized, repeatable, and widely accepted test cases to verify key performance parameters of home Wi-Fi Access Points have been a crying need, especially with the introduction of Wi-Fi 6 based products. Being a 100% Indian company,
we are cognizant of the challenges faced by Indian OEMs and Operators and look forward to working with our customers and partners in India to solve locally relevant issues. OEMs, Operators, and WiFi chip manufacturers around the world use WiCheck in their labs to replicate the real-world scenarios and identify issues in meeting the end-user expectations.”
