6 Ways To Copy Files From One Computer To Another

Here are 6 ways to copy files from one computer to another. We all experience a situation when we need to transfer files from one PC to another.  It might be while buying a new computer or bringing work from the office to home or any case. Below is a list of almost all the ways to transfer files from one PC to another.

External Storage Media:

A USB flash drive such as pen drives or hard drives is the most commonly used method to transfer files. Just connect the pen drive to the old computer and transfer the files to the drive. Connect the USB to the new computer and paste the files to it. The same applies to CDs and DVDs. It creates a backup on the drive if you mistakenly delete the file.

Ethernet:

It might be difficult for a non-geek to connect the PCs using an ethernet cable but is the fastest method for transferring the files. A network switch can be used to connect the two computers, and a private IP address needs to be assigned. Windows provides a share wizard after connecting the two PCs. Simply copy paste the files.

Cloud Storage:

Cloud computing is ruling the internet today with easy access to files anywhere in the world with internet access. Upload files to your Google Drive or One Drive account using one PC and access the files using another PC. Despite being one of the most reliable methods, it consumes a lot of data in uploading the files and then downloading it on the other PC.

Email:

Email is another easy way to transfer files. You mail the files to yourself, and the files are stored I your mailbox. Access your mail through the other PC, and you can download the files. Transfer Cable A Windows transfer cable costs about $30-40 and has two USB 3.0 male connectors. Plug both the ends of the cable to both the computers and transfer the files from one PC to another. If your PC doesn’t support USB 3.0, there are cables available with USB 2.0.

PCMover:

Earlier, Microsoft had a service called Easy Transfer. But after releasing Windows 10, they scrapped their service and partnered with PCMover. It has the same functionality but costs to use the service. It helps you select the folders and files and transfers it to the other PC. You just need to install the software in both the PCs and connect them to the internet.

LAN or WiFi:

If the computers are close enough, you may connect them to the same network. All the PCs have an inbuilt feature to share files via the network. Enable network sharing on both the PCs via the control panel and start sharing files over the network. Third-party Softwares There are many paid software available in the market which helps you transfer files. They include a detailed guide on the software’s how-to and are mostly easy to use. So if budget isn’t a problem, hire a third-party service. Softwares like AOMEI Backup and Send Anywhere work well. As well as you can try using Robocopy one file.
