Something Bothering You? Call The Student Helpline – 18004191828 – You Are Not Alone!

The Narayana Group launches a national helpline for students in distress.

Every adult remembers the pressure of school life.

Apart from the pre-exam blues, the growing years can be very challenging from the perspective of emotional and social well-being. Confusion regarding the goals, uncertainty of the future and the pressure of making the right decisions are bound to have anybody troubled.

Having a strong support program to guide through this challenging time can have tremendous benefits on the development process of a child.

Keeping this in mind, the Narayana Group launched a new initiative, ‘DISHA’, to assist the students in identifying their direction and fighting their mental demons in a healthy and efficient manner in collaboration with the parents and teachers.

With a highly motivated team of 25 counsellors – referred to as “Development Coaches”, DISHA focuses in shaping the students’ personalities to help them become better equipped to deal with challenges in their future. The Development Coaches act as facilitators in the group and individual sessions to mentor, counsel, and guide the students. The program is currently held across all residential campuses under the Narayana Group.

Mr. Puneet Kothapa stated, “The most common mental blocks include – lack of self-esteem, confidence, relationship issues and family issues. This transition phase for the children weigh on their shoulders heavily. Lot of issues concern them. For instance, the rigour and responsibility towards education, uncertainty about goals, new pattern of education etc. It is also a time to adapt to new challenges – which may even include personal relationships or family concerns.”

Students are exposed to a barrage of challenges during the college experience, from growing pains associated with adjusting to college to everyday factors like social pressures.

Amidst the chaos, DISHA Program has been of tremendous help in assisting students to understand their potential, develop a positive attitude, build strength, and become resilient in any circumstance.

In this academic year alone, the team has handled over 2000+ individual cases and conducted 500+ group sessions for students of Narayana Junior Colleges. The Development Coaches spend quality time with the students to understand the root of their concerns and help them in finding the answers they seek.

The positive influence of DISHA is visible from the relentless work they have been done since June 2017. However, with the rise of the digital world and nuclear families, there has been increasing cases of isolation between parents and children. New age issues like pornography addiction and game addiction are offering new challenges to DISHA. Nevertheless, having a team of hardworking professionals is undoubtedly going to aid in overcoming these upcoming challenges.

With over 400,000 students – and 100,000 clearing competitive exams – The Narayana Group –

for more than four decades has not only been an academic lab – but the success of its students has been a result of the development of their mental strength.

The Narayana Group, known as the “Gateway to the IIT”, has long understood that students of this age group undergo a phase of emotional and biological transition. Assisting them in framing their own identities throughout the development process would help students become the strongest and most confident versions of themselves.

Realising the importance of counselling and lack of immediate professional resources throughout the country – The Narayana Group decided to open a free helpline nationally to all students, of all institutions.

“Competition is growing, and The Narayana Group is constantly upping their abilities and skills,” says Mr. Puneet Kothapa, Director, Narayana Group. “With over 400,000 students, the Narayana Group cares for the student community and understands the challenges the young minds face. We realised the unavailability of skilled manpower in the country, to deal with these stressors.  According to reports from the Indian Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the country needs around 13,000 psychiatrists. To achieve an ideal ratio of psychiatrists to population is about 1: 8000 to 10,000 but currently has just about 3,500 – which is about one psychiatrist for over 2 lakh people! The DISHA program will fill a national need.”

The free National Disha helpline would provide not only support but also save lives. As it is open for all, the helpline offers an excellent opportunity to save lives. Something bothering you? Call our student helpline – 18004191828.
