Suzuki is contemplating to manufacture Jimny SUV in India
Japanese Automaker Suzuki is contemplating to manufacture Jimny SUV in India. In production for over four decades, the Japanese automaker’s Jimny brand is set to propel into fourth generation. Suzuki is contemplating to make India the manufacturing base for the fourth generation Jimny which was unveiled globally in 2017. The company intends to sell 4th gen Jimny in Indian market and export India made Jimny to overseas markets. Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) may commence production early next year at its upcoming production facility in Gujarat.
The fourth generation Jimny will share underpinnings with Baleno and Ignis. Under the hood, expect a 1.0 litre, boosterjet engine as standard; this is the same engine which will be used in Baleno RS and Ignis. Giving a skip to the diesel powertrain, Jimny is likely to be available with a 1.3 or 1.4 litre boosterjet engine mated to a new automatic transmission. Also expect the same 4×4 system to be used in the fourth gen Jimny as the upcoming Ignis. India could get the four-door extended wheelbase version whereas the shorter wheelbase two-door model may be shipped to overseas markets.
