Maruti Suzuki is India’s largest selling Automatic Cars Maker

Maruti Suzuki is India’s largest selling Automatic Cars Maker

Maruti Suzuki is India’s largest selling Automatic Car maker. Maruti Suzuki India is the largest car manufacturer in the country with a market share of over 50 percent and usually, seven out of the ten best-selling cars on a monthly basis are from Maruti Suzuki.

Without any surprise, Maruti Suzuki still dominates the car market in terms of sales figures. Meanwhile, it is interesting to notice foreign-origin brands such as Hyundai and Honda catching up in the market at a fast pace.  The legendary Indian brand sells the highest numbers of cars in the country, month-on-month; evident from the latest cars sales report. In fact, if we take the individual model sales report, Maruti cars always attain the top-three spots on the list.

Maruti Suzuki was leading the sales for the month of July. Incidentally Maruti Suzuki topped the sales for the month of June also. The month of July this year, saw Maruti cars attain the top six positions in terms of sales. The company sold a whopping 1,64,369 units last month; a significantly high figure even though it was lesser than that in July 2017. Following close behind are the cars from Hyundai, even though the total sales figures are way behind that of Maruti Suzuki.

For the same reason, the fact that Maruti has become the largest seller of automatic cars in India is not that surprising. The Indian car market is witnessing a growing demand for affordable automatic cars, especially in urban areas. The majority of the Indian population still prefer Maruti cars over any other models. The brand reputation which has developed over the years and the excellent service network in the country are some of the major factors for Maruti’s market success.

As per NDTV CarAndBike report Maruti Suzuki has sold 3.6 lakh cars in India within the past four years. Meanwhile, sales of CVT or conventional torque converter automatic cars such as the new Maruti Ciaz and Baleno are 10 per cent lesser than that of AMTs.

AMT models contribute to almost 20 per cent of the overall sales of Maruti Suzuki. The brand marked their presence on the market of affordable automatics with the introduction of the Celerio AMT, back in 2014. At that price point, no other car was available then with an automatic transmission option.

Maruti Suzuki calls their Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) systems as AGS (Auto Gear Shift). Offered in many models such as the new Swift, Dzire and Vitara Brezza, AGS offers a decent driving experience with smooth gear shifts and most importantly, least compromise on fuel efficiency.

The Maruti Dzire is currently the highest selling car in India and a majority of the sold units are automatics. Maruti Suzuki offers AMT versions in both their petrol and diesel models. In total, seven Maruti products are available with an AMT option.

Many other brands have followed suit with their own AMT models. AMT variants of the Renault Kwid and Tata Nexon have been receiving a response on the market but not as much as Maruti Suzuki cars.

As per studies and experience, it has become evident that a majority of car users in the country spend a lot of time in tight traffic, each day. In such conditions, an automatic car makes more sense since drivers only need to use the brake pedal to move or stop the car (creep function). Since Maruti Suzuki is one of the most trusted car brands in the country, Consumers have no doubt while buying a AMT model from Maruti Suzuki range.
