WhatsApp New Feature – You can now request Money from your friends

WhatsApp, a leading chat app application has introduced a new feature for Beta users. Users users can now request money from other chat app users, thanks to a new feature coming to select markets around the world.

  • WhatsApp beta testers have noticed the new Request Money button
  • The software will give you a choice between either Pay Money and Request Money.
  • Previously, users were only shown the option to send money to another user within the chat app.
  • Users have the ability to accept or reject requests for money received within the app.

The feature is currently limited to India, one of the biggest markets for the Facebook-owned messaging app. Until now, the functionality has allowed WhatsApp to wirelessly transfer money within the chat window via a QR code or Unified Payments Interface (UPI) ID. However, WhatsApp recently started to test an interesting feature to the app – the ability to request money from friends.

Those running the latest beta on Android can test-out the feature now.

Users need to navigate to Settings > Payments > New Payments within the app, then tap the name of the contact who owes you money.

The software will give you a choice between either Pay Money and Request Money.

Previously, users were only shown the option to send money to another user within the chat app.

Requests for money are only valid within the app for 24 hours, beta testers have reported.

After that time limit the requests simply expire and users will need to send a fresh request.

Users have the ability to accept or reject requests for money received within the app.

WhatsApp users can keep track of these requests by heading to Settings > Payments > Payment Requests.

This shows the status of pending requests. Declined or approved requests are found in the Payment history menu.
